We’re only half an hour away from the famous Opuke (Mt Hutt) and its world-class skiing and snowboarding! With over 365 hectares of skiable terrain, it's a perfect location for beginners and experienced skiers alike—and the perfect opportunity to connect over a shared experience. Even if you haven't skied before, you’re bound to have an absolute blast at Opuke (Mt Hutt). Take a ski lesson together, laugh as you learn and be there to cheer each other on when you hit those milestones! And when you’re finished, you can park up for a refreshing beverage and a debrief at the Corona Bar, perched in a prime position in the middle of the snow-capped slopes.

Hiking and Nature Walks

If you prefer a more peaceful experience on your romantic getaway, you’ll be delighted to hear that there is an abundance of walking trails in and around Montrose Estate. As expected in such a unique part of the world, most of these trails provide breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery—the perfect setting to tell your loved one how much you care. There are options for short hikes, such as the Mount Hutt Ski Field Access Road Walk which offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, or longer hikes such as the Rakaia Gorge Walkway, which provides stunning views of the Rakaia River and its surrounding gorge. We always recommend penciling in a visit to one of the wineries near Montrose. Within an hour’s s drive from our Estate you’ll find several vineyards that offer wine tasting tours, including Sirocco Wines and Melton Estate. This is a perfect opportunity to sample some of the region's best wines and enjoy the beautiful surroundings—rain, hail or shine! For extra brownie points, pay attention to what your partner enjoys and surprise them with a bottle to take home.

Scenic Drives

If you're looking for a more relaxed way to explore the area, then take a scenic drive at your own pace. Our incredible region has several scenic drives that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including the aptly named Mount Hutt Scenic Drive and the Inland Scenic Route.
