Montrose Estate: A Photographer's Dream
Montrose Estate: A Photographer’s Dream
Seeing things behind a camera lens gives photographers a unique perspective of the world. You capture bursts of colour, intense emotion, sparks life and love with a click of your camera and preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
Montrose Estate is much more than just a luxurious Opuke (Mt Hutt) accommodation. It is a place for great inspiration. We invite keen photographers to go on a photo safari. Let us know if you would like to go on one so we can arrange it for you. We would be thrilled to take you up to spots where you can find the wildlife of the high country. Explore bird life, rare plants and game animals in action.
The Blackford Stream is fed by the natural fresh springs of Montrose, which provides the purest spawning ground for wild salmon and rainbow trout. Take amazing shots of the yearly salmon runs up the creeks of Montrose during their spawning times. You can even visit the salmon hatchery for up close photography of beautiful red roe or tiny fingerlings.
Get intimate with one of beautiful deer grazing on the property or a young fawn taking its first few steps in spring. Montrose Estate is involved in an enhancement project with Fish and Game New Zealand. Part of the property sustains an organic deer breeding station -- with the remainder of the land untouched, allowing you to enjoy the many acres of beautiful flora and fauna.
The property also gives guests dramatic 360 degree mountain views. Landscape photographer can take endless snaps of the surrounding mountain ranges, tranquil springs and forests rich in ferns -- just pure, unspoilt nature at its best. We also have 2 kilometers of Rakaia River frontage right on the property.
Take a photography stroll along Rakaia Gorge walkway which meanders through areas of geological and historic interest. The walk has stunning views and wonderful native bush. It starts at the northern edge of the Rakaia River and passes through forest and shrub before climbing a historic ferryman’s track. Along the walkway, you’ll find several glacial and river-carved terraces and lava flows of rhyolite, andesite and pitchstone -- all offering great photo walk experience. It also passes through the Snowdon coal mines.
Photo enthusiasts have plenty of reason to choose Montrose Estate as their Opuke (Mt Hutt) accommodation. Aside from offering a luxurious stay, this 260-hectare private alpine estate sitting on the base of the Southern Alps has so many of breathtaking spaces. It is also teeming with animal life offering budding and professional photographers endless opportunities to practice their craft.
